Education tips for parents
Parents
play a great role in helping their children succeed in school. Parents make a
great difference. Their biggest contribution to their children educational
success is through what they do at home. It is challenging being a parent but
when it comes to your child, you have to play your part. This entails just
simple things that can make a big difference.
Have a high expectation of your child
You
should let your child know that you think it is important they do well in
school. This will have a great impact on your student’s achievement. Express belief
in your child’s potential; tell them that you expect them to succeed
academically. Your child will do better.
Talk about school
Discuss
with your child about what is happening at school. Discuss about programs and
what they are learning. His has a greater impact than monitoring their
homework, limiting playing time or time to watch the television. Talking to
your child about school matters will motivate them to do better as they would
strive to tell you more about their achievements.
Read together
Reading
is a strong foundation of all education. You can make a big difference by
reading with your child, talking about stories and books with them. Reading
with children is the best way to turn them towards reading. Read with them at
their own will; don’t force them to read even when they are not in moods. Teach
your child to love reading and make reading more enjoyable to them.
Involve yourself in school activities
This can
be by cheering on school team, attending school concerts or participating in
community events and school meetings. This can foster a sense of community
within a school. It can also build a strong relationship between parents and
teachers. This will enable parents to connect with teachers and support each
other towards student’s achievement.
Play
As the
saying goes ‘work without play makes Jack a dull boy.’ It is very true. After
school, give your child a chance to play. Let them know it is not always about
books. Play with your child and if they need time to play alone, let them play.
Play is good for brain development and it will help your child concentrate more
after resuming on studies.
Monitor your child
This does
not mean you deny your child some privacy. All you have to do is to check on
them regularly and ensure that they hang out with the right company. Try to
monitor if your child is engaging in bad behaviours such as using drugs. If you
find unusual activities by your child, try to guide them. Do not use force. Try
to find out the reasons behind your child’s action and help them correct.
Conclusion
Parents
play a great role towards their children’s performance in the school. Try to
follow the child. Find out what they can do better and assist them in doing it
right. Don’t force them to do as other children are doing because everyone is
